Ian Popken lives with his family in the historic seaport city of Newburyport. He started making guitars in 1997 in a small cottage on Plum Island in the adjacent town of Newbury. In 2001 he moved to his current Newburyport location, a house built in 1850, where he now has his permanent shop.
